Featured Book: The Best of Flyways & Byways

Flyways & Byways, a lively and colorful nature feature of the Richmond Times-Dispatch, captures the pleasure and excitement of birding in our own backyards as well as far-flung corners of the world. The nature column originated in 1998 when RTD asked readers to suggest new topics for the newspaper to cover and Jerry Uhlman contacted the Managing Editor to recommend a birding column for an outdoor activity that is steadily growing in popularity.

After a meeting with newspaper staff, he was asked to give it a trial—and the rest is history: 93 columns covering avian behavior, conservation endeavors, astounding migratory journeys and discovery of unheralded hotspots along America’s flyways and distant byways. This new book, Flyways & Byways, brings you the best of many columns that have appeared in the Richmond Times-Dispatch over the years.
